The 85th Comrades Marathon, proudly sponsored by Flora, was run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.

The 2010 Comrades Marathon attracted over 20 000 entrants this year. They gathered at the start at 5:30am outside Pietermaritzburg’s City Hall, filled with excitement and nervous energy.

The first Comrades Marathon was run in 1921. The race was originally conceptualised by Vic Clapham, as a way of honouring the camaraderie and hardships of the Great War. It has since become world-renowned as one of the greatest annual running races.

This year, the Comrades Marathon 2010 was a ‘down run’ starting at the City Hall in Pietermaritzburg and finishing at the Sahara Stadium Kingsmead in Durban.

The race was won by Zimbabwean Stephen Muzhingi winning back to back in 5:29:01.

The womens race was won by Russian twin Elena Nurgalieva finishing a second faster than her sister Olesya in a time of 6:13:04

Flora congratulates all runners who took part in this great day on the road!
