All of us have probably checked the nutritional information on food labelling at some point but do we really know what we’re looking for and how relevant is the information to us as consumers? We’ve provided some simple information to help you understand product labels.

Recommended Dietary Allowance 


Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) labelling on food packaging means you can now take the guesswork out of what you should be eating and plan a healthier, balanced diet without too much hassle. RDAs are guidelines for men, women and children (from 4 years and above) about the approximate amount of micronutrients i.e. vitamins and minerals required on a daily basis.

RDAs for our micronutrients are clearly marked on all our Flora products.

Keeping it simple


Men and women have different RDAs for some nutrients, but to keep things simple, rather than using two sets of figures on every label, adult RDAs are based on female guidelines. Take a look at the table below to find out more about your specific RDAs:

And remember, they're called recommended because that's exactly what they are - a recommendation, not a target.

Did you know?


In South Africa it will soon be mandatory to include trans fats in the nutritional table when making a health or nutrition claim. Flora foods are low in trans fats.
